A gathering place rooted in wood and place

Located in Banff National Park, the Okach-Iyethkabi Pavilion is a community gathering place that showcases regenerative architecture. Built by HSS Design Build Ltd., the pavilion features mass timber construction, using locally sourced dowel laminated timber (DLT) panels for its structure. The design–inspired by the region’s rustic, prairie-style architecture–harmonizes with the natural surroundings. A large overhang protects the building, supporting it’s 100-year design life. For enhanced beauty and durability, exterior cedar timbers are finished with Sansin SDF in Espresso, to shield the wood from water and UV damage as the seasons in Banff change from cold, dry winters to warm summers.

Sansin SDF: A penetrating finish for interior and exterior wood surfaces

Sansin SDF provides tough, effective protection for wood siding. SDF’s specially formulated oils and resins penetrate into the wood, providing outstanding water resistance and UV protection–in a wide range of natural, semi-transparent and solid colors.

Thanks to SDF’s unique waterborne technology, it provides complete protection in 2 to 3 coats, depending on your choice of maintenance cycle and finish. For added durability, SDF Topcoat is used for the second and optional third coat, for an even richer satin finish.

And, because SDF is designed to be highly water resistant for wet climates, it’s a natural choice for moisture rich environments. Not only does SDF protect the outside of your wood, it also protects the inside by allowing wood to breathe and release its embedded moisture, thus preventing rot.
